PainSolv 3-in-1 Medical Device using pulsed magnetic field therapy for Pain, Wound and Stress condtions

What it does...

PainSolv influences cell behaviour by inducing electrical changes around and within the cell wall membrane by penetrating body tissue with pre-programmed pulsed field magnetic therapy delivered through patented software algorithms. The resulting improved blood supply increases oxygen pressure, which activates and regenerates cells

How it Works...

The PainSolv system encourages your body's self-healing capabilities by enhancing the efficiency of introducing essential chemicals and proteins into the blood stream, simultaneously increasing the oxygen content of your blood to help transport these vital ingredients to combat all manner of physical problems, with a gentle, non-invasive, painless therapy.

Extra Benefits...

PainSolv will also encourage production of natural antioxidants to hamper and even stop the process of free radicals proliferation within the body. Free radicals are dangerous and can cause serious damage to your health as they cause almost all major diseases if unchecked.

PainSolv Celadrin Accelerator Balm for drug-free pain relief

What it does...

PainSolv Celadrin Accelerator Balm is a natural anti-Inflammatory with added menthol which can help give proven relief for pain without side effects. The product which is also FDA compliant in USA, includes Celadrin®, which is an all natural proprietary ingredient, that has been clinically proven to reduce pain and rapidly promote joint health, improving flexibility and mobility.

How it Works...

The product decreases inflammation and lubricates cell membranes throughout the body, restoring fluids that cushion bones and joints to promote flexibility and mobility. Over time, because of the reduction of inflammation delivered by using the product, the joints and surrounding tissue have an opportunity to promote healthy joints.

Extra Benefits...

The product works similar to, but much more dramatically than the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA from fish oils. The product's complex blend of esterified fatty acids provide many vital and beneficial effects for the inflammatory responses in the body. The Celadrin® content induces changes at the cellular level, in the cell membranes which positively affect the responsiveness of the cell membranes. This aids in the reduction of cartilage breakdown in the joints. The product's beneficial effects have been proven superior in results to Glucosamine, Chondroitin, MSM, SAMe and other arthritis medications.

Abdominal Aeortic Aneurysm

This is the condition when the aeortic artery leading from the heart distends due to any number of reasons, most commonly excess in lifestyle.

An abdominal aortic aneurysm can develop in anyone, but it is most frequently seen in males over 60 with one or more of the above risk factors. The larger the aneurysm, the more likely it is to rupture.

Abdominal Muscle Strain

A strain is a stretch or tear of a muscle or tendon. People commonly call such an injury a "pulled" muscle. Your abdominal muscles may be strained during a forceful activity.

Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)

The acronym stands for ‘acquired immune deficiency syndrome’. This virus causes infections that greatly reduce the body's immune system, rendering it vulnerable to infections that healthy people seldom contract.

Acute Anxiety and Panic Attacks

Everybody feels anxious at times, and anxiety can sometimes be a useful spur to tackling problems. There is also a different kind of anxiety that is more like a paralysing fear. If, for example, someone you love is inexplicably late returning home, you can become so anxious that your heart beats faster, you sweat, you pace up and down, your mouth becomes dry and you cannot eat. The good news is it all stops the moment your loved one arrives. Both of these reactions are normal and are part of our ‘flight or fight’ response.

Alzheimer's Disease

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive disease in which nerve cells in the brain degenerate and the size of the brain itself shrinks. It is the most common cause of dementia or loss of mental abilities. It affects about 6 per cent of all people over 60 and at least 20 per cent over the age of 80. The illness affects many parts of the brain but most obviously those concerned with memory and with emotional control.

Anabolic Steroids

Anabolic steroids are drugs that have a protein-building effect similar to testosterone and other male sex hormones. They are not the same as corticosteroid drugs which are often prescribed by doctors for conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and asthma, or hormone replacement therapy.

Anaemia

Anaemia means having too little of the oxygen carrying pigment, haemoglobin, in the blood. This can happen either because there are too few red blood cells, or because there is too little haemoglobin in the cells. You may have too few cells because you are losing blood, for example from heavy menstrual periods, from bleeding piles, or from a stomach ulcer.

Bad breath

Almost everyone has bad breath at sometime, for example first thing in the morning, after smoking (especially cigars and pipes) and after certain types of food (especially those containing garlic and onions). Some types of medication may also have an affect on your breath. The main avoidable cause of bad breath is poor oral hygiene, since it is often a symptom of gum disease and tooth decay. Regular brushing of the teeth, flossing, the use mouthwashes and timely visits to the dentist will all help. Odours on the breath can be an indication of other conditions, for example infections in the lung, diabetes and kidney diseases. If you have a strong smelling breath and other symptoms like a persistent cough or thirst, then consult your GP.
Balanitis

Balanitis is the inflammation of the glans penis (the acorn shaped end of the penis). It is usually caused by tightness of the foreskin (phimosis). Symptoms of the condition include:
- Swelling
- Redness
- Pain
- Difficulty in passing urine
- Inability to retract foreskin

The condition may be treated by antibiotic therapy. Recurrence of the condition may require circumcision, but this is often avoided by gentle retraction and return of the foreskin. It should be noted that 'simple foreskins', i.e. non-retractable, are usual in boys under the age of 4 years.

Bell's Palsy

Bell's Palsy is now believed to be caused by viral infection of the VII (7th) cranial nerve (facial nerve) producing weakness of the muscles on one side of the face and the inability to close the eye. Involuntary salivation may occur. Treatment is to wear dark glasses, to treat the open eye with artificial tears and to decrease nerve inflammation with oral steroids.
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

BPH is a common condition that over 50% of men over 45 can contract. The prostate cells begin to swell as men age and this swelling sometimes constricts the urethra which interferes with the passing of urine.

Recommended product: ProstaBrit

Benign Tumours

Benign tumours are those which can grow and cause other related problems within the body, but which do not contain malignant cells.

Blocked Ears

The vast majority of all air-travellers suffer blocked ear sensation as their bodies try to balance the air in middle and inner-ear cavities. This happens when aeroplanes descend prior to landing, as air pressure in the cabin increases. This causes your ear drums to “pop” as they automatically adjust to the aeroplane’s pressure changes.

Recommended product: N300 Blocked Ear Device

Boils

A boil is an inflamed, pus-filled bump in the skin, usually around a hair follicle, which is infected by a bacteria, common staphylococcus.

Breast Augmentation (Reconstruction and Enlargements)

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to increase the size and shape of a woman’s breast for a number of reasons, the main ones being, to reconstruct the breast after breast surgery (mastectomy), or to enlarge the size of the breasts for cosmetic reasons. The medical name for this is breast augmentation mammaplasty.

Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. The outlook can be very good especially if it is diagnosed early. This is why it is so important for women to be aware of any changes in their breasts, which might mean they have cancer. Nowadays, mammography screening tests are offered every three years to women aged 50 to 65 and to women with one or more close relatives who have developed breast cancer in their 30s or 40s.

Bronchitis

Bronchitis is inflammation of the air tubes (bronchi) that carry air in and out of the lungs. It affects around three million people a year in the UK and is twice as common in men as in women. Most people who are affected are over 40 and are smokers. This inflammation causes swelling of the lining of these tubes, narrowing the passageways and making breathing difficult. There is usually a persistent cough and it may also cause wheezing.

Bruxism

Bruxism is the medical term for teeth grinding. It is usually a habit but can sometimes be a symptom of other conditions like dental problems, cerebral malaria or misuse of amphetamines. If a habit, it is usually anxiety or stress related. It can cause damage to the teeth and pain to the jaw.
Bulimia Nervosa

Bulimia nervosa is a compulsive eating disorder, usually affecting young women, and causing them to eat large quantities of food in a very short period of time (binge eating). Cancer

The term cancer refers to a collection of malignant cells, which can originate in any type of tissue in the body including body organs, bones, muscles and blood.
If left untreated these cells can multiply and invade other tissues in the body and may eventually become life-threatening to the person affected.

However it is important to state that the term cancer covers a broad range of malignant diseases, each with different symptoms, different treatments and different survival rates.

Some cancers are aggressive and grow very rapidly; others are of low malignancy and progress very slowly over a period of years.

Candida Albicans

Infection by Candida Albicans, also known as thrush most commonly affects moist areas of skin or mucous membranes inside the mouth or vagina. It causes spots, itchiness and vaginal discharge. It is common and may occur in people who are 'run down' or have just finished a course of antibiotics. Normally, the bacteria that naturally inhabit these areas prevent the yeast from spreading. The self-help treatment using natural yoghurt recognises this. Modern treatments use chemicals, which destroy the yeast.
Carbuncles

A carbuncle is a cluster of connected boils, generally found on the nape of the neck. Carbuncles are less common than single boils and mainly affect people with a lowered resistance to infection.

Childbirth pain

There are a number of different methods to gain pain relief in labour. The fundamental choice is whether or not to use pain-relieving medication. Discussing this with your mid-wife will help you make this decision. The dramatic portrayal of women in labour and tales from other, often older women, about their own labour, may make the pain experienced appear to be worse than it is or, at least, cause you anxiety expecting the pain.

Childhood Arthritis

Arthritis is a disease usually associated with older people. It can, however, affect children and young people. The most common form of arthritis in children is juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). The word idiopathic means the cause is unknown.

Coping with morning sickness

Morning sickness is one sure way to discover you're pregnant.

Unfortunately there's no way to avoid it; the feeling of nausea, accompanied by vomiting, is one of the more uncomfortable consequences of pregnancy. Morning sickness is however a sign of a healthy pregnancy as the hormone chorionic gonadtropin flows through your body, preparing the body for carrying your baby.

Corns

A corn, also known as a clavus, is a hardened inward growing horny mass, in the shape of a cone, with the point directed in the skin. Usually a corn is generated in an area of keritanisation as a consequence of chronic localised friction and pressure.

The colour of corns is usually glassy yellow. The horny core of a corn can exert pressure on nerve endings and cause considerable pain. Corns are caused by wearing ill-fitting shoes, poor stance of the foot or toes, or a combination of both, amongst other things. Corns can originate under the ball of the foot, on a hammer toe, under the nail, between the toes or even in the nail bed.

It occurs primarily in the heavily populated areas of the tropical and subtropical regions of the world, predominantly in urban and suburban areas. In recent years it has become a major international public health concern. It is being seen more and more in world travellers.

Diabetes Mellitus

Diabetes mellitus is a disorder that happens when:
- Your body is lacking in the hormone insulin
- Your body cannot use the insulin that it has produced

Diabetes Mellitus in Children

Diabetes is a lifelong illness in which the pancreas fails to produce enough of the hormone insulin that regulates the level of sugar or glucose in the blood. Insulin ensures that the food we eat is used or stored safely in the body. If there is not enough insulin, the glucose level becomes dangerously high.

With modern treatment, diabetes can be controlled very well, and a child with diabetes can do almost anything other children can do.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy is a serious complication of diabetes mellitus, which can be successfully treated and controlled if diagnosed early. Diabetic retinopathy is a condition caused by damage to blood vessels in the retina.

Diet and Cancer

If you have cancer, you may find you have trouble eating, or cannot eat as much as usual. This may be due to the disease itself or the treatment you are receiving such as chemotherapy (anti-cancer drugs). It is a normal reaction to be upset by the weight loss that commonly occurs because it reminds you that you are ill.

Diet and Heart Disease

People develop heart disease when the blood vessels (coronary arteries) that take blood and oxygen to the heart muscle, become clogged with fat and debris. This is often called ‘hardening of the arteries’. When this happens, the oxygen supply is reduced and then chest pain and other heart problems such as palpitations may start as the heart itself is starved of oxygen. A total blockage of a coronary artery will result in a heart attack.

Dislocated Shoulder

A dislocated shoulder is an extensive injury in which the upper arm bone (humerus) pops out of its cup-shaped socket. Most people regain full shoulder function within a few weeks after experiencing a dislocated shoulder. However, once you've had a dislocated shoulder your joint may become unstable and be prone to repeat dislocations.

Down's Syndrome

Down's syndrome is an irreversible genetic condition which occurs at conception. In every human cell there are normally 23 pairs of chromosomes, half of each pair inherited from the male partner and half from the female. These provide the genetic 'blueprint' for the way in which the body develops. In the commonest form of Down's syndrome - 'trisomy 21' - the faulty division of chromosomal material results in an extra chromosome number 21 in each cell.

Drug Dependence

Drug dependence occurs when an individual feels compelled to take drugs on a continuous or regular basis in order to feel its psychic effect (eg to obtain a 'high' or a 'kick' affecting the mind) or to avoid the discomfort produced by its absence.

Dry Eye Syndrome

Tears, which are produced by the lacrimal glands (small glands above each eye), are necessary to lubricate the front of the eyeball. Without this lubrication, the eyes and eyelids become very painful and prone to infection. Lack of tears gives rise to the condition called dry eye syndrome (also known medically as keratoconjunctivitis sicca).

Dupuytren's Contracture

Dupuytren's Contracture is a disorder affecting the hands, where the fingers (usually the third and fourth) are fixed in a forward curved position.

What causes it?

It is caused by the flexor tendon becoming fixed to the skin of the palm of the hand. It may be associated with excessive alcohol use, smoking, diabetes mellitus or heavy manual labour.

What treatment is available?

The usual cure is surgical division of the tendon from the skin.
Earache in children

Earache may come on suddenly and can be very painful. In babies and young children it is often due to otitis media, which is an infection in the middle ear. These infections often accompany a cold, a cough, or a childhood illness such as measles or mumps.

E-Coli

E Coli is the abbreviated name for the Escherichia Coli group of bacteria, which is found in the intestines of animals including man. E Coli O157 is the strain of the organism can cause a very violent form of food poisoning, which may be fatal or cause lasting damage. The disease spreads through eating, drinking or handling contaminated food. Proper cooking or pasteurising destroys the bacterium. The symptoms of E Coli food poisoning are diarrhoea, which may become bloody and abdominal pain. Young and old people may be at risk of a more severe form of food poisoning developing, which may cause kidney failure. Often the disease is allowed to run its course making sure that dehydration is avoided (by taking plenty of fluids and rehydration salts). Treatment with antibiotics and rehydration through a drip may be needed. Barbecuing hamburgers, young children handling farm animals, e.g. in Visitor Farms, are particular sources of danger.

Eczema

Eczema is a skin condition in which the skin becomes itchy, red, and flaky. In some cases, the skin may become blistered and weep, often when it's infected. One of the most common types of eczema is 'atopic eczema', which is linked to asthma and hay fever and tends to run in families. It often appears in babies between the ages of 2 months and 2 years. Some forms of eczema are better known as dermatitis, such as 'contact dermatitis' and 'seborrhoeic dermatitis'. These more commonly affect adults.

Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a common and treatable disorder in which abnormal electrical discharges in the brain cause recurrent seizures. It affects about 1 person in 200 and usually starts in childhood or adolescence. Many people grow out of it altogether as they reach adulthood, while others find that their seizures become less frequent.

Erysipelas

Erysipelas is a streptococcal infection, usually of the face, caused by bacteria entering the skin through a cut or sore.

Children and elderly people are the most susceptible.

What are the symptoms?

Symptoms include:

- Sudden onset of fever
- Headache
- Vomiting
- Lethargy
- Itchy red patches across the cheeks and bridge of the nose
- Pimples develop, first blistering, bursting, and then crusting over

What treatment is available?

The condition is treated by antibiotic therapy.
Fainting

Fainting is the temporary loss of consciousness caused by insufficient oxygen reaching the brain. It can occur in perfectly healthy people and is often brought about by prolonged standing or emotional shock. Fainting may also occur in pregnancy, from low blood pressure (hypotension), severe pain or blood loss.

The symptoms of fainting are:
- Giddiness
- Nausea
- Sweating
- Blurred vision
- Ringing in the ears

Anyone feeling faint should sit down and lean forwards with their head between their knees. This position will aid the blood supply to the brain. If someone has fainted and has fallen to the floor, this usually restores the blood supply within a few minutes as the head will be at the same level as the heart. To ensure another attack is avoided, the person should remain lying down for at least 15 minutes with their legs raised and supported above chest level (use cushions, pillows or a small stool). Repeated fainting attacks should be discussed with your GP.
Febrile Convulsions

These are seizures (fits or convulsions) associated with a rapid rise in the body temperature of a child. The child may twitch uncontrollably and may become unconscious briefly. An illness that causes the body temperature to rise above 39 degrees Celsius (102 degrees Fahrenheit) may cause the condition, which is common in children aged between 6 months to 4-5 years. Immediate treatment is paracetamol syrup and sponging with tepid water. Urgent medical advice should be sought if your child has a seizure with no rise in temperature, if the high temperature persists or if they have repeated (more than 3) seizures following one another.

Gangrene

Gangrene is the death or decay of a part of the body due to bacterial infection or lack of blood supply to the area.

Moist or Wet Gangrene is caused by infection; Dry Gangrene is caused by lack of blood supply; and Gas Gangrene is caused by the group of bacteria called Clostridium, which live in the soil.

Genital Herpes

This is an infection caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) of which there are two types. HSV1 normally affects the mouth and lips causing cold sores or fever blisters and HSV2 is the cause of genital herpes. The virus is contracted by having sexual contact with someone with an 'outbreak' of the condition. The symptoms are similar to those of the cold sore but in the genital area. They appear 2-10 days after contact. There is no cure or treatment and, once infected, the sores may recur. To prevent spread of the virus, avoid sexual contact in the active phase and use a condom.
Genital Warts

Also called Condyloma of which there are two types Condyloma Acuminatum, caused by the human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and spread by sexual contact with a carrier. The warts take 1-3, or in some cases up to 9 months to appear. They are small pinkish/white lumps, which sometimes become cauliflower shaped. They itch but are usually painless. Like all virus infections they are difficult to eradicate. The warts can be remove by cautery, cryosurgery or by laser. Using a condom and avoiding skin contact is the best way of preventing the spread of the virus.

The second type is Condyloma Latum, which is syphilitic in origin. The underlying disease has to be treated using Penicillin. Condoms provide some, but not complete protection.
German Measles in Adults (Rubella)

German measles, or rubella, is a very common and very infectious childhood disease caused by a virus. In children it causes a trivial illness, but the greatest danger with rubella occurs when a pregnant woman is infected with the disease, especially in the first three months of her pregnancy.

German Measles in Children (Rubella)

German measles (rubella) is a very infectious childhood disease caused by a virus. In most children the disease is quite mild. There may be a faint pink rash with a slight fever, often swollen glands in the neck, and sometimes aching joints. There is a general feeling of being unwell.

Giardiasis

Giardiasis is an infection of the intestine by a parasite called Giardia lamblia. This can be acute or chronic and is passed in the stools of an infected person or animal.

Glandular Fever

Glandular fever is a generalised viral infection, common amongst teenagers and young adults, sometimes referred to as 'kissing disease'. The disease is caused by infection with the Epstein-Barr virus. The virus is spread in a similar way to the flu virus. Infected fluid in the nose and mouth is passed from person to person by coughing sneezing or kissing.

Symptoms of the condition include:
- Swollen glands, especially in the neck
- Fever
- Headache
- Sore throat
- Lethargy
- Fatigue
- Depression

There is no specific treatment for glandular fever. Rest and mild painkilling drugs are helpful. Glandular fever can leave you feeling weak and tired for many weeks and it is advisable not to return to normal activities while symptoms persist.
Glaucoma

Glaucoma is the name given to a number of conditions in which the optic nerve at the point at which it leaves the back of the eye becomes damaged. It is important that it is discovered and treated as early as possible as it can lead to blindness. Glaucoma seldom affects people under 40, and tends to run in families.

Golfer's Elbow

Golfer’s Elbow (bursitis) is the inflammation of a small sac of fibrous tissue filled with fluid.

Green-lipped Mussel Extract

Interview of Mr John Croft LRSC, MRSNZ, FRSH, Marine Science Consultant by Bill Archer, Mediconcepts, 21 September 2007, Leicester, UK

BA What exactly is SF4 and what can it be used for?

JC SF4 is a product that combines the therapeutic benefits of two marine natural extracts with selected group B and C vitamins to address the problem of degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis) in dogs and domestic cats.

BA
Why does this phenomenon occur?

JC Degenerative joint disease is a condition that occurs naturally due to normal wear and tear in the joints of dogs and cats as they reach old age.

BA So it is only effective for aged dogs and cats then?

JC
No. In some of the larger breeds of dog, it can occur earlier in their lives. It can also appear as a disease state in both large and small animals without being age related. In an otherwise healthy dog, one of the more distressing symptoms of this disease is that of the painful and restricted movement that the animal suffers.

Haemorrhoids

Haemorrhoids (also called piles) are blood-filled swellings caused by dilated veins. They are roughly the equivalent of varicose veins in the lower part of the gut - the rectum and anal canal. Initially, they are located just inside the anus (internal haemorrhoids) but they can sometimes protrude (prolapsing haemorrhoids).

Hepatitis C

The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is one of the most significant health problems affecting the liver. More than 170 million individuals in the world (3% worldwide) are infected with HCV.

Hepatitis C and Liver Damage

The basis (mechanism) of liver damage in chronic HCV infection is not very well understood. The virus itself probably does not cause liver cell damage directly.

Hepatitis C and Liver Transplants

End stage (advanced, with complications) liver disease that is associated with chronic hepatitis C infection is the leading reason for liver transplantation today.

Housemaid's Knee

Housemaid's Knee is the inflammation of a small sac of fibrous tissue filled with fluid.

How Pain affects Lifestyles

Pain comes in many forms. The sudden, acute pain produced as a result of stubbing your toe against a chair is completely different from the debilitating and steadily throbbing pain of a condition such as Crohn’s Disease that sometimes persists for days on end. But pain can affect lifestyles dramatically.

IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)

IBS is one of the commonest causes of abdominal pain and disturbance of normal bowel action, affecting about 20 per cent of people in the UK at some stage in their lives.

Immunisation for Children

All children should be protected against certain harmful infections by immunising them during the first months and years of their lives. The infections children need to be protected from are diphtheria, whooping cough (pertussis), tetanus, polio (poliomyelitis), mumps, measles, German measles (rubella), and some causes of meningitis (HIB/ haemophilus influenzae type B and meningococcal meningitis C).

Injuries to the Knee Joint

The knee joints are the major weight bearing joints of the human body and are capable of bending, straightening and slight rotation in the bent position.

Medication for Angina

Angina usually occurs as a result of poor blood supply to the heart. Blood flows to the heart through the coronary arteries, but these arteries can become narrowed by disease. This is usually caused by a process known as atherosclerosis in which the artery walls are thickened by a build up of fatty tissues. The narrowing of the arteries prevents them from passing enough blood to meet the needs of the heart if it is beating fast and hard.
Medicines for Asthma

Thanks to modern treatments, most people with asthma can now handle their condition well and lead a full and mostly trouble-free life. To gain control of your asthma, you will need to understand when the different medicines should be taken and what their effect will be. You must also be able to judge the severity of an attack and agree, with your doctor, a plan of action to deal with it.

Menieres Disease

Menieres disease is a condition where hearing loss, tinnitus, vertigo and a feeling of fullness in the ear can all occur to varying degrees of discomfort. This condition can be very debilitating.

Oesophagus Cancer

Oesophageal cancer usually occurs in the middle to lower parts of the oesophagus, the part of the gut after the mouth. It is quite rare in Europe and is most common in men and those over 50.

The causes are not fully known, but may be related to poor diet, smoking, long term acid reflux from the stomach and consumption of excessive amounts of alcohol. Symptoms include difficulty in swallowing followed by rapid weight loss.

Diagnosis can be made from a barium meal x-ray imaging and a biopsy (examination of a piece of tissue) of the oesophagus.

Treatment is usually removal of the tumour through surgery and often radiotherapy and anticancer medication if surgery is not possible.

You should consult your doctor if you have any of the symptoms even though the symptoms can be caused by other conditions.
Orchitis

Orchitis, also known as Epidydimitis or Epididymo-orchitis is the name given to inflammation of testis and the associated epidydimis, the coiled tube that carries sperm to the seminal vesicles where they are stored until ejaculation. It is caused by an infection.

The testes become swollen and the scrotum (the bag that contains them) may become red and inflamed.

Treatment is usually with antibiotics if a bacterial infection is suspected. Any tenderness or swelling in the testes should be investigated to rule out the possibility of testicular cancer.
Osteoarthritis

Arthritis is inflammation of one, or usually several, joints of the limbs or spine. The two main types are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid.

Pain Definitions

Pain comes in many forms. The sudden, acute pain produced as a result of stubbing your toe against a chair is completely different from the debilitating and steadily throbbing pain of a condition such as Crohn’s Disease that sometimes persists for days on end. These pains are known respectively as acute and chronic pain.

For example, an injury will influence the body’s immune system will automatically release pain-suppressing chemicals to deal with the short-term effect, but chronic pain, because of serving no purpose to the body’s immune system, will not trigger any physiological action.

Pain Medication Problems

Recent press activity concerning pain management drugs has meant that the people who will suffer most are chronic and arthritis pain sufferers who have lost the very drugs that allegedly helped improve their lifestyle. Instead they are now very worried about the damage those medications may have caused them.

Pain Statistics

Chronic pain causes misery and wrecks lives. It has a substantial impact on patients physically, psychologically and socially.

Pain Treatments

About 200 pain clinics have been set up in the UK to treat patients suffering from chronic pain. Patients are referred to a clinic by their doctor or a hospital specialist and treatment is provided free on the NHS. Pain clinics use a variety of treatments to relieve pain.

Pancreas Cancer

The pancreas helps with digestion and produces insulin. The causes of pancreatic cancer are unknown, but can be linked to smoking, a high fat diet and excess alcohol consumption. It mainly affects those over 50.
Symptoms usually do not appear until the cancer is advanced and include upper abdominal pain, jaundice, nausea and tiredness.

Diagnosis can be made by ultrasound scan, CT scan, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), taking a biopsy (examination of sample of tissue from the organ) or examination of the pancreatic ducts.

Treatment can involve surgical removal of the cancer as well as radiotherapy and anticancer medication. If you have any of the symptoms, you should consult your doctor. The symptoms may also indicate conditions other than cancer.
Pediculosis (Body Lice)

Affects mostly the middle-aged and elderly. Lumps are usually easy to spot and if caught in the early stage there is a good chance of cure. Treatment is usually to remove the lump or mole.
Snoring

Snoring is caused by the vibration of the soft palate, which can be easily seen behind the tongue. In severe cases of snoring it can be caused by sleep apnoea (loud, heavy snoring with long gasps), which can result in excessive daytime sleepiness. Obesity and drinking too much alcohol may cause snoring. Treatment may include use of nasal dilators.

Stop Smoking Now

Heart disease, bone cancer, arthritis, pancreatic problems, back problems, sexual organ dysfunction, eye disease, gum disease, and premature baldness. This long but inconclusive list of diseases develop because of three factors.

First, smoking is like injecting yourself (and those around you) with a lethal cocktail of over 5000 chemicals known to cause cell mutation.

Second, the carbon monoxide from smoking displaces oxygen and causes cells to die - including brain cells.

Third, tobacco constricts veins, which means it causes blood vessels to shrink, which means that fewer nutrients are delivered to destinations such as hair follicles, joints of the spine, your heart and sexual organs.

Uterus Cancer

The cause remains unknown but the condition most commonly occurs in women between the ages of 50 and 64. Postmenopausal women may be protected to some extent by using HRT with a combination of oestrogen and progesterone. Vaginal bleeding is an early sign in postmenopausal women, while in premenopausal women it may manifest as bleeding between periods or having heavier periods than usual. Investigations include biopsy (examination of a small sample of tissue), dilatation and curettage, vaginal ultrasound, hysteroscopy, blood tests or scans. Treatment includes radiotherapy, hysterectomy (surgical removal of the uterus) or chemotherapy.
Vaginal Cancer

The cause is unknown but risk factors such as cigarette smoking and wart virus (human papilloma virus) infections increase the risk. The presence of a sore itchy lump, abnormal bleeding or a sore itchy vulva (the external part of the vagina) area should be investigated. X-rays, blood tests, biopsy, colposcopy or an intravenous pyelogram (IVP) all aid in making a diagnosis. The main form of treatment is surgery, which may be combined with either radiotherapy or chemotherapy.
Varicose Veins

Blood is produced in the heart and carried round the body through arteries.
Veins carry blood back to the heart. Varicose veins are swollen veins on the surface of the leg which usually first appear on the calf area and less commonly right up to the groin. They become more pronounced if a sufferer is standing.
